Japanese Power Wood: Koyasan Koya Rikuboku
This is the Gift of Forest in Koyasan, The Holy Land
These stunning bead bracelets are made from six different kinds of coniferous trees that, since ancient times, have been known as Koyarikuboku.
Sugi (cedar), Hinoki (cypress), Tsuga, Momi (fir), Akamatsu (red pine) and Koyamaki. The logging of these trees has been restricted under a system called Rugi-tomegi. These particular types of trees have significant importance as they are used in the construction of Temples.
Kobo Daishi, the founder of Shingon Buddhism, utilized these trees to collect funds as part of the reconstruction project for Koyasan.
